Ok, I know that there will be comments on this post that call the content of this article into question. Yes, it is definitely a defensive move from the Palin camp to counterattack all the criticism that was poured on her after McCain lost. But I gave both sides a fair listen and have taken away that all this "he said/she said" just has to be thrown out because it's impossible for us to know which side is telling the truth... in some ways, I'm sure they both are.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not posting this to get argument ;) I just found this really amusing, and slightly overdramatic.

Yesterday on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on an 'Obama 08' button, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference-- just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need - the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.

One of the subsequent commenters pointed out that it was a ridiculous social experiment, since she took away 100% of the server's income (not totally true, since he still got his $2.13/hour from the restaurant). I just found it to be an amusing story. And... the poor server. I'm sure he's as ready as I am for the election to be over already :)

Why I Don't Want Higher Taxes for Anyone

I don’t make that statement out of concern for my own paycheck. I make that statement out of concern for the economy. I was having a conversation with my brother the other day about what more taxes would mean to me. I admitted to him that I rarely think about taxes. I tend to just look at the net pay on my paystub, and not get too wrapped up on how much money went out for taxes. I’ll accept that I might be in the minority because I know my husband tends to freak over how much he “loses” to taxes.

So… if I don’t pay much attention to how much I pay in taxes, why would I mind taxes going up? I told my brother that if the net pay line on my check goes down, the impact will be that I cut my spending. I won’t change my 401k amount, I won’t change how much I send to Savings. What can I say, I’m one of the responsible Americans who is planning for retirement. What does me changing my spending habits mean? It means that the waitress at my favorite restaurant will see me less often, and her shifts will decrease, and her tip income will decrease. It means that I won’t go to the movies as often, which means that the ticket collector who is working for minimum wage will have his shifts cut or be let go due to falling demand. It means that I won’t go buy a new car, so the sales guy won’t get his commission.

In sum… less money will be going into the economy. Who does this hurt? Everyone. Those who make over $250k and those who make under. And as I mentioned in the previous post, just passing the increased taxes onto corporations is also counter productive. Am I lobbying for no taxes at all? No, of course not. I would like to see a complete overhaul in the taxation system because I don’t feel that it is an effective model. But, what I am really saying is that when the economy is bad, it seems like a very bad move to raise taxes.

Admittedly I fell asleep halfway through the debate last night, so I won't declare a winner or loser (other than Joe the Plumber being the decisive winner!). BUT... I did catch one exchange that I was proud of McCain on. The topic was on taxing corporations. Obama was defending that he wasn't going to tax poor Joe the Plumber. He was going to tax evil Exxon and their damn $12 billion profits. As soon as he mentioned taxing Exxon, I turned to the husband and said, "oh, great, so they'll raise their prices."

Does he not understand that is how business works? They are going to make their financial goals... they have to in order to keep the shareholders happy. So, if taxes increase...hmmm.....prices increase. Imagine that. Obama may say he's not taxing those who make under $250k, but this will end up costing me in the end. yay

I was happy that McCain mentioned that the tax rate on corporations in the US are much higher than elsewhere in the world. How are we going to have jobs here when businesses don't want to be here?

I was talking to a wonderful Hispanic coworker who said, "I asked my Grandma what political party we were. My Grandma said, 'we are the donkey because we are poor'".

I thought Palin held her own, and she did very well. I was very surprised that no candidate made large gasps. Biden listened to the advice of others, and several times I saw him holding back. Palin had her confidence back and shined. CNN polls stated that both candidates did better than expected, but 84% said Palin did better than expected.

The best defense:
Instead of getting tripped up about past reform over Darfur, Palin stated it was time to stop reliving the past and work towards improving the future.

The biggest surprise:
Women did not like Palin. Consistently on the gender rating system, men agreed with Palin more than women. Women were also more likely to rank Biden higher than men.

The biggest eye roll:
Biden stated that if Obama died, "it would be a national tragedy." (I wonder if that was for the Obama-loving, book-writing moderator.)

Highest Spot on CNN poll for Palin:
When talking about the economy, Palin did better. She scored her highest on the debate when she acknowledged personal responsibility in spite of bad Washington's legislation. "Never again will we be taken advantage of."

Earlier this week, the House rejected the bailout plan by only 23 votes. Roughly 40% of Democrats and 66% of Republicans decided to vote nay. (Although the media thinks it was more partisan.)

Yesterday, I watched McCain and Obama vote for the Senate bill. We were led to believe that the Senate passed the same bill. It is not the same bill; do not be confused. The Senate actually passed a bill that allows more spending than the $700B in the form of pork.

People will have you believe it isn't pork, but please explain to me how a mental health provision or extra money to Hollywood film makers who film in the United States is not pork.

How is this supposed to entice the House to pass it when they were against the bill and the spending in the first place? It seems to me that people aren't serious about passing this bill.

The first Vice Presidential Debate is October 2, 2008. Personal opinions aside, I am excited to see an experienced debater going up against Sarah Palin. "He has been doing debates since 1972, I was like in second grade."

Here is my question:
The moderator is Gwen Ifill. She is a known Obama supporter, and she has published a book to be released on inauguration day entitled The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. Can Gwen Ifill stay impartial on such an important debate?

The same question can be asked in reverse. Would a right wing conservative be a fair moderator?

Live CSPAN is better than the Superbowl

Ok, last night I stayed up until 10pm watching live coverage of the House (1am EST). The House Republicans have gotten a bad name, but the Democrates are saying wait, too! Bipartisan, they hate the new financial bill. They just tallied the votes minutes ago; it did not pass! Which makes sense since the majority of Americans hate the bill, too.

Their arguments were amazing. Most economic professors are saying to not rush. It still gives big dog executives too much money, just no "golden parachutes." That is tax payer money!

The bill was going to give $100B to the president to use at his discretion. That is a lot of money to give a guy with such low approval ratings.

It was also proposed to let the Senate use $350B at their discretion pending proper process. The Senate has a 13% approval rate! We shouldn't let people that can be bought by lobbyist that much money.

Why do I love Palin? She is from local government, like the House. She understands her constituents. She (and the house) aren't afraid to look bad by doing the right thing.

Everyone knows Palin's personal email had been hacked. Because she is a perspective VP, the Secret Service has been investigating this federal offense.

Turns out "Rubico" was bragging about hacking the email in an online forum. (Bragging about illegal activities is never smart.)

It can be traced back to a Tennessee college student, Kernell. Kernell is the son of the Democratic state rep from Memphis, Mike Kernell. When the police went to visit him, he fled out the backdoor.

Lynn Forester de Rothschild has decided to support McCain/Palin over Obama. She feels that Obama et al are going too far to the left. She had raised $100,000 for Clinton when she was running. She disagrees with Palin on abortion but likes the idea of a woman in the White House. I hope this a sign of a new trend. She liked the way McCain has stood up to Bush in the past. She also wants to know who Barack Obama has ever stood up to. Apparently, this troubles her.

As we are all aware, there is a lot of turbulence on Wall Street. Where do politicians stand?

Behr Sterns' overnight bankruptcy enraged fear in all financial advisers. Taxpayer money had to save them!

The government saved Behr Sterns; why not bail out Lehman Brothers and save everyone from the Monday disaster? As Sarah Palin so boldly stated, "Then where does it end? Where do we begin to draw the line?" We as taxpayers can't save everyone. Even the liberal Times Online states, the free ride is over. Actually, not bailing Lehman Brothers is supported by financial advisers on both sides because Lehman Brothers has been struggling for a while. Behr Sterns' financial lost was so quick that a large depression would have inevitably followed.

Fannie May and Freddie Mac were recently found guilty of improper business and hiding debt to attract investors. Taxpayers were forced to help them out of debt, AGAIN. Why wasn't something done about it? Ahem...five years ago, the very liberal New York Times stated that Bush recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis. The opposing party controlling the Senate rejected the bill! The Bush administration may have some problems, but they saw this coming and tried to fix it, however, the Senate and housing lobbyists didn't agree.

"These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee FIVE YEARS AGO. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing." Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina stated, "I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing." Why am I responsible for people that can't afford a house? The "poorer families" that can't afford a down payment should wait until they can without using crazy "no income, but good faith" loans.

I guess the proof is in the pudding. As the only governor in the presidential race, Palin is the only one that has had experience balancing a budget and using fiscal responsibility. In fact, Palin cut $231 million from Alaska's $550 million capital budget. And as we all know, she sold the corporate jet for $2.1 million dollars.

We need a politician that is looking out for us, the average person. We need a politician that is willing to give up the show to save and defend the average person.

I grew up in a political household! I lived in a small town of 2000 people. My dad was a farmer active in the community. He became a councilmen when I was still younger, then he became supervisor for like 8 years.
When he first ran for Supervisor he won over a friend of the family. It was hard not to be friends with the 2000 people in the town, so this ruined their friendship. My dad was beat out of office almost 2 years ago. His best friend of almost 50 years ran against him and told lies, slandered our family, and made false promises! Typical politics, but not to your best friend! Lenny our new supervisor is my sister's God Father, we now don't even realize he is alive, since what he did to our family.
Ok so you are all thinking what the heck does this have to do with Sarah Palin.... I never cared about politics since my dad was in office, I went campaigning, political dinners, lunches, parties, and hated every minute of it. I did this to spend time with my Dad, he was never home- working full time, being the town supervisor, and still keeping our vineyard working.
I finally started to care again this election, I hate Obama, and love McCain, and now he was Palin which is so much better.
I asked to be apart of this blog and was so excited when KT sent me the invite. Thanks again for making me interested in politics again! It is fun to talk with all of these issues with the Hot Chicks that can talk business but still support Palin's great hair, cute glasses, and amazing family!

The Palin Factor

I was working out the other day and the gym had 4 TV's blaring. 3 of the 4 had some program about Sarah. I narrowed in on Larry King Live who was interviewing Joy from the View. It was all about the "Palin Factor".

My observations on the "Palin Factor":

1. Obama has a great sense of humor, this one has thrown him so far off his stride that he isnt as funny as he used to be
2. Republicans who gave up (me included) care again.
3. The idea of John McCain being/looking too old to run for president is no longer such a big deal. Sarah can take over.
4. The media doesnt know what to do, wow they cant control the momentum
5. Sarah is the friend we would all drop anything to help. Selfish politicians dont understand this
6. Sarah is smart and motivated. Men love her, women are turning on her. Wow looks like real life
7. The more she takes a beating the more support she will get
8. Keep talking about how incompent she is, she will knock everyone socks dead even more

OK! Magazine, Matt Damon, Sarah Palin

I was really irritated this week when my copy of OK! magazine arrived, and I had received the Obama cover. I really want to send this to OK! and tell them that maybe they could distribute their covers based on statistical data, but I'm assuming that the Palin cover will sell a lot better in stores and they decided to dump the excess Obama covers to all the subscribers.

Today I checked okmagazine.com and found this article on Matt Damon's view of Sarah Palin. A couple of things you might be asking yourself:

Why would Sara be reading okmagazine.com? (I'm a total tabloid junky, I admit)
Who cares about Matt Damon's political views?
Why would OK! publish this "news"?

The third question is what bugs me. Well, actually Matt Damon's entire viewpoint bothers me, too. I think it's unfair and petty. What makes Obama more qualified to be Prez than Palin? How much more do we know about Biden than Palin? I know a LOT more about Palin than Biden because she's actually itneresting to me ;)

One of the many reasons I am voting for McCain/Palin is because of taxes. According to an article published back in June, my taxes would be reduced around $7,000 under McCain. To be fair, under Obama by taxes would only go up a few dollars. Still, when I have bills to pay and a special needs child to care for, what could I do more with, $7000 or -$12?

I read an article yesterday that stated that Sarah conveniently used her kids depending on the circumstance. One of the main examples they used was Bristol's name. Bristol was named after Bristol Bay near their home. From what the article states Palin used Bristol by stating "We named one of our children after Bristol Bay" to convey to reporters that she supported the environment and was against a proposed mine in the Bay. I suppose we are to believed 16 years earlier she had named Bristol in the hopes of using her to gain the support of environmentalists when she ran as Governor of Alaska. Shut fore site this one ;)

The only good thing about the article is it explained the wacky kids names:

Despite recent reports, Oprah still has not scheduled an interview with Republican Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin.

US Weekly - Punished

Kim recently posted about US Weekly being pretty darn biased when it came to their cover story on Sarah Palin. While half-watching the VMAs, I was checking out TMZ.com and came across this:

So this is interesting. US WEEKLY is losing subscribers because of it's Sarah Palin cover story, "Babies, Lies and Scandals."

There were reports as many as 10,000 subscribers bailed, but US told Page Six the number was closer to 1,000. Apparently the mag -- and to be fair just about everyone else in the media -- misjudged Palin's impact once she opened her mouth.

We put some polls up yesterday. With 200,000 votes, 51% called Palin the biggest star of the convention. Obama came in second with 45%. McCain got 3% and Biden 1%.

We also asked who you'd most like to have a beer with -- 43% Palin, 28% Obama, 16% McCain and 13% Biden.

MTV VMAs

Since this is a political blog, I'll post it here. I am so irritated watching the MTV VMA awards. I know they like to push the envelope, blah blah blah, but it's so tired. Gee... could I have predicted that whoever hosted the VMAs would be voting for Obama? It's not so radical. But... I seriously did not need to see the 5 minute rant on George Bush, Sarah Palin, and the Jonas Brothers not having sex before marriage. Thank God for the fast forward button. I hope Russell Brand disappears asap.

Sarah Palin Interview

I am sorry that this is a media based post once again but I am too excited not to post this. Sarah Palin will sit down with Charles Gibson of ABC news later this week. Her son is deploying Thursday so she is headed back to Alaska. She will be interviewed there. I am sure we are all looking forward to hear her answer questions one-on-one. I know I will try to watch the interview live and Tivo it.

Sarah On The Issues

There has been some criticism from commenters that this blog is not addressing the issues but just talks about her family. The same problem we have with the media-we're all just family focused. I am going to try to explain why (from my perspective). I haven't written about the issues because I agree with all of them! The media has made her family such an issue that I find I am always defending it. I agree-nobody talks about the issues!

So, I said I agree with Sarah on the issues.....what does that mean? I am a social conservative. I generally do not discuss politics on my blog and therefore this is probably the first time I have put my positions in writing:

Like Sarah Palin, I am Pro-Life
Like Sarah Palin, I strongly support the Second Amendment
Like Sarah Palin, I believe we should control our own energy and drill in Alaska
Like Sarah Palin, I supported the surge of troops in IRAQ
Like Sarah Palin, I agree we should reduce property taxes
Like Sarah Palin, I would define marriage as between a man and woman
Like Sarah Palin, I agree with ethics reform. I support her going against the Republican Party in Alaska
Like Sarah Palin, I do not support big government

I would like to hear her position on Healthcare and Immigration.

Lastly, I agree with several liberal women who have stated "Sarah Palin is no Hilary Clinton" to that I say "Thank God".

Bias in the Media

I think even people who support Obama can agree that Sarah Palin has been treated differently than the other candidates by the press. I try to read every article written about Gov. Palin. I can honestly say that I have yet to find ONE article that strictly discusses the issues. Some do mention her feelings and record on some issues but I have not read ONE that doesn't mention her personal life. Most write about her record and positions but then mention one of two things. Either they bring up that she has a pregnant 17 year old daughter or a Down Syndrome baby. Here is an example http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080906/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_palin. I guess they think there is one person left in this country that hasn't heard about her daughter being pregnant yet. Write about it if they want. I just wish they would at least be fair about it. When I read articles about the other candidates, they don't mention these types of things. If they do this with Sarah Palin, then shouldn't they do this for all of the candidates? I think not! Do you think they continue to do this because she is a woman? Do they do this because she is a CONSERVATIVE WOMAN? I think I am getting close.
Does ANY candidate that ever runs for office have a "perfect" life? I don't think such a thing exists. I told Kim that we would be in BIG trouble if we ever went through the vetting process. Could any of us ever come out PERFECTLY clean? I doubt it. We were all teenagers once weren't we? Let's hope the media moves on to the important things like the issues.

She has introduced herself and her family to all of America
She made history by being the first woman on the Republican ticket
She fired up and almost dead Republican party
She scared the left wing bloggers into pure desperation as evident by their "stories"
She helped McCain even things back up with Obama....look for them to go-ahead soon
She held her family together during attacks and every single one showed great poise under very difficult circumstances
Her story resulted in the most watched political convention in history!
She has changed the course of this nation and history

My First Blog Ever!

When my friend Kim asked me to contribute I felt great trepidation. I had never planned on sharing a blog. I guess I feel as if I have nothing to say. What made me say yes? The answer is Gov. Sarah Palin! She is the sole reason I have come out of hiding to put my thoughts on the web for all of the world to see. God help the web!

Looking at Sarah Palin is a treat but hearing her speak is even a bigger one. When she speaks, people listen. For some odd reason, I want to be her new BFF! I feel as if I know her. I have NEVER felt that way about a candidate. On the surface, we don't have much in common. As opposed to Gov. Palin, I am second generation Californian, I only have two children, I was never a beauty contestant, I don't own a gun or hunt. Our lifestyles couldn't be more different but we still believe in many of the same things. It's a great time to be a Republican woman!

Feminism 2.0

As a woman, I am grateful for the feminists like Gloria Steinem who paved the way for me. They stated that a woman should be treated equal. A woman should not be defined by the bra that separates the genders. A woman does not need a man. A woman can do anything.

However, Sarah Palin belongs to Feminism 2.0, the newer version. Men and women should be treated equal, but they are not the same. We can be comfortable with who we are and what roles we choose. As a woman, we are no longer threatened by a man. We don't need to put down a man to put ourselves up. We may not need a man, but that is what we choose because that is what we want.

And yes, a woman can do anything; a woman can now even be Vice President.

Story on Bristol's Baby Daddy

I saw this yesterday and hadn't noticed it on Wednesday night. The story comes from People magazine (who is doing a huge feature on the Palin family this week). I guess they caught some shots of Bristol holding hands with her fiance, a more appropriate term than "baby daddy" I suppose. For some reason this just resonated with me as being a very normal couple, young but sure of what they want. Yes, having a baby at 17 is going to be tough, but I think they'll survive. I don't think the whole marriage is anything being forced on them because of the campaign. I guess time will tell. I'm not sure of her fiance's family situation, but you can tell that Bristol was raised in a family by two parents who loved each other and set a good example on what marriage should be. Or at least that's the perspective from the outside looking in ;)

A Few Words on the Palin Family

I relate to this family-I don't recall ever thinking that of any political family before. Coming from a large family (with 6 kids) I loved seeing Trig passed from person to person-it's just so normal. Governor Palin said the following: "Our family has the same ups and downs as any other ... the same challenges and the same joys." So far this has been evident in every public appearance and seemes to be backed up by everyone that knows them. This family is down to earth and it is easy to get behind them.

Last night, I fell in love with Piper Palin. The kid could not be cuter, then she notices Trig's hair is messed up and improvises like every good big sister would:

When faced with the dilemma to add yet another blog to our repertoire, or risk having 2 months of posts on Sarah Palin and lose some of our readers on our individual blogs, we opted to start a new blog. :) This shouldn't be a surprise as I already have 2 individual and 1 shared blog, as does Kim1Champ. Laura is Jane (who is Laura) has 1 and her shared blog. It's only Andria who has not yet caved to the power of the HCBC and started her own blog. However, she is a regular commenter and we hope that this blog sucks her in to the joys of blogging!

But I digress.

Prior to last Friday, I was completely uninterested in watching this week's RNC. I'd planned to vote for McCain because he wasn't Obama, but didn't really like the ticket. And then, while driving through Pennsylvania and stopping at a McDonald's that had a huge LCD on the wall tuned to CNN, I became one of Sarah Palin's biggest fans! I'm not sure the last time that I've been as glued to my Blackberry as I have been in the last week, or actually watched TV LIVE (GASP!), but I am completely addicted to all things Sarah Palin!!!
